Wilier Cento Uno Frameset White Description
Ride the bike of the 2008 World Champion - Allesandro Ballan, Team Lampre
The new Cento Uno is the latest evolution of Wilier Triestina's technology in research and design.
This monocoque frame is achieved through a patented method that gives the unidirectional carbon an unparralelled lightness and compactness. It is the culmination of over one hundred years of experience and the dawn of a new way of constructing bicycles.
And there are seven reasons, they say, why the Cento1 is the perfect new road machine.
- It has an incredible 46per square millimetre carbon strength
- Its weight – it is 120g lighter than the previous Cento model
- It utilises the new Easy Drive system on the headtube.
- It has the Wilier OBB (oversized bottom bracket) system.
- The bike has a new integrated seatstay and chainstay.
- It features a new integrated seat tube.
- It has an asymmetrical rear triangle to free up chain movement.
Weight
The Cento1 is a full 120g lighter than the previous Cento model. The weight of the frameset starts out at 1050g - and that is heavier than the original which tipped the scales at 950g. But by judicious weight saving the complete bike comes in at 1180g compared to the original Cento weight of 1300.
So what do the men who have to race the machine think?
Damiano Cunego: He said: “I have never ridden such a stiff frame. You can feel the benefits of T46 when you’re pushing the frame to the max. The rear of the frame responds immediately to the strokes of the pedals and without a hint of torsion.”
Allesandro Ballan: He said: “I like to test frames on the most difficult terrain like cobbles and unpaved roads. If you are able to push to the max even under these conditions, without the sensation of losing power to the irregularity of the surface, then it has passed the test.
