Orange Vit T Mountain Bike 08

The original Vit-T was Orange Mountain Bikes' only venture into titanium bikes. Orange only made a few at the time – not because there wasn’t demand, but because each one took a lot of time and effort to make, and not many people could afford it. For 2008, not a great deal has changed. It’s made in super-limited numbers; only enough to commemorate 20 years of making bicycles, one for each year. Each of the 21 bikes will issued with a unique year from 1988 to 2008.

In its new guise, the Orange SubZero features revised geometry based on the Patriot’s ride characteristics. It’s designed to suit a fork with a 150mm to 170mm of travel, take big profile tyres without lifting the bars too high. Square section chainstays deliver drive-train power, while new rounded section seat-says give the rider a degree more comfort on those long steep climbs. On descents, the SubZero’s freeriding pedigree shows in its confident tracking that allows the rider to stand up out of the saddle and really push the front into the trail, letting the tail-end chase the fork.

Yes Orange have, and they still maintain that the single pivot is the best mix of travel, longevity and looks on mountain bikes. However, for mounyain bikes with less than five inches of travel, those benefits are overshadowed by chunky swingarms, a compromise on pivot location and less than precise shock control over the shorter travel. With the ST-4, Orange wanted to produce the ultimate fast trail bike. Orange Patriot XCEL Full Suspension Mountain Bike 08

The Orange Patriot is without doubt the most versatile bike in the Orange mountain bike range. Its all round ability allows it to ably perform as an all day all-mountain trail bike, yet it excels as a full-on free-ride rig in severe Alpine terrain.

The Patriot’s frame has been completely revised with new state-of-the-art folded downtube and swingarm sections. This ingenious new frame shaping gives a bigger contact patch between the CNC machined head tube and the downtube for a stronger welded join avoiding the need for unnecessary gussets. The addition of a CNCed shock mount on the swing-arm disperses shock loads into the wider area of the swing-arm’s body, reducing the stress at the shock’s connecting point.

Improved standover clearance is provided by the lowered top tube, giving extra confidence when things get hectic. Adding a gusset at seat-tube/top-tube joint for extra frame durability.
