When Pinarello introduced the Prince in 1999, many in pro-peloton were still riding lugged steel frames. There were few visible cues beyond decal transfers identifying one bicycle from another. That all changed with the bold design of Pinarello’s Prince The frameset revolutionized road bike design through its pioneering use of carbon fiber not only in the blades of the fork; but also for the first time utilized in the seat stays of the bicycle.

While this design has been copied throughout the bicycle industry; the combination of a stiff, responsive and light metal front triangle and composite fork and rear seat stay is still a vicious combination eight years later. The latest iteration of this concept, in the form of the Pinarello Dogma FP was ridden to a podium finish in last year’s Tour de France by Caisse d’Epargne’s Oscar Pereiro.

Pinarello had stepped up to market trends and introduced a number of carbon fiber bicycle frames in the intervening years; yet with the exception of time trial applications; the Treviso firm always placed its top riders on metal bicycle frames with carbon forks and seatstays modeled off the original Prince design. The top tier Pinarello has never been a composite bicycle….until now. Utilizing Toray 50HM1K carbon; Pinarello has produced a carbon fiber bicycle worthy of the Prince name. Combining the stiffness, snap and incredible road feel of the Dogma FPX, the Prince offers an even lighter weight chassis and a more refined road feel than any of its predecessors.

The first few Prince Framesets were produced for Pereiro and Valverde with express intent of winning the 2007 Tour de France. International Bicycle Center; as one of the premier Pinarello agents in the world; has access to a few limited edition complete bicycles to coincide with the official release of the Prince at this year’s Tour De France. The Pinarello Prince FP LS is equipped with 2008 Campagnolo Record componentry; MoST Carbon fiber stem, seatpost and handlebar, a MoST carbon fiber crankset with ceramic bearings and this special edition bike comes with Most carbon clincher wheels.
