The disc has been cleverly designed to incorporate ABLC technology in the skins. The disc hub makes maximum use of the Zipp 202/84 hub machining technologies as well as receiving the 202/84 bearings and Rapid-Transition free hub bodies, allowing you to change from Campy to Shimano in less time than it takes to tie your shoes. Furthermore, the disc hub is the world’s first to interchange from cassette to track compatibility, again only requiring two tools and a few seconds to complete the transition.

You’ll also see the disc skin is embossed with over 4900 dimples of 5 different diameters in a pattern which forces the airflow to form thinner, turbulent boundary layers. The significantly reduces the interference drag. The turbulent layer also adheres to the wheel skin throughout an increased airflow angle of attack, resulting in significantly lower drag in cross-wind situations, which means you have even more control with the ABLC disc than any other shape or design. Finally, the ABLC disc increases handling performance by minimizing the low-pressure wake left behind the wheel, allowing for greater tire choice with fewer aerodynamic side effects than seen with other designs.

The 58mm deep front wheel is the ideal depth and configuration for optimal aerodynamic performance and handling. Sapim CX-Ray spokes provide great aerodynamics in all conditions, durability and strength. The 909 front incorporates our exclusive ICT and VCLC manufacturing process. As with all ZIPP Deep Section wheels, superior aerodynamics, lateral stiffness, comfort and durability are once again improved through redesign of the rim surface for 2005. You will notice that the rim surface on the front 700c wheels is a bit different then other wheels. We have taken the ABLC technology previosly found only on the disc, and treated the front wheel to the process. These subtle dimples will save a bit of energy down the stretch allowing the wheel to spin even faster than before.

Both the Disc and Deep Section front are equipped with our Silica-Ceramic braking surface for smooth, quick stopping power wet or dry. Zipp specified brake pads must be used on Zipp rims to ensure great braking performance and rim longevity.
