- With a density of just 1.8g/cm3 and a tensile strength of 4900 Mpa, no other frame building material can match GCT fibers.
- Giants composite production utilizes uni-directional (UD) layer technology to maximize strength and stiffness with minimum weight.
- Fibres are laid in one direction on a resin epoxy base to form the UD sheets.
- These sheets are then laid on an epoxy resin base in layers to form the various thicknesses for specific areas of the frame.
- For example, more layers are used in the head tube area than in the middle of the top tube.
- The UD layers are also laid up at different angles to provide directional strength and/or compliance to the tubes, depending on where they are on the frame.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) computer test models allow Giant to detect the potential weak points of a design.
- We are then able to strengthen these specific areas, applying the ideal UD layer combination.
- Carbon-composite absorbs high-frequency vibration to decrease rider fatigue, while still providing stiffness for excellent control and power transmission.
- Tapered walls lay-up to distribute maximum fatigue stress.
