Continental tread is essentially a wide-spaced paddle style but with plenty of slots, slopes and angles to dig out extra grip. This all sits on a large volume (2.4in is enormous) and very supple handmade carcass that wraps around trail irregularities for outstanding connection and a floated feel.
The killer ingredient of this latest version is Continental's unique micro-particle Black Chili compound: it gives superb soft compound-style adhesion, whatever the trail conditions.
It can sideslip if you really heave on the anchors or stomp the power down but there's a vocal breakaway signal as you reach its limits.
Despite the easy clearing space and outstanding grip, its rolling speed and durability is pretty reasonable too, making it a phenomenal technical tyre if you can afford the price.
VERDICT - Outstanding in all conditions, the grip makes this a top technical choice.
